Studio Word is a design studio established by Kyuhyung Cho and Jungyou Choi in 2018. Kyuhyung Cho is a graduate of Konstfack, where he majored in storytelling, and Jungyou Choi is a graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven, where she majored in Man and Wellbeing, as well as Ecal, where she majored in Luxury and Craftsmanship. Studio Word is based in Seoul and Europe, and is active in the design fields of graphic, product, furniture, and space. They are striving to create a creative and useful language of design based on their close observation and discovery of their surroundings and objects, their comprehensive understanding of tradition and modernity, as well as their work ethic of maintaining fresh perspectives and genuineness. They have collaborated with Menu, Iittala, Hermes Petit h, Reuge, Mete, NakNak, and Yéol, among others.

Your work embodies both traditional and modern elements. How do you approach the interplay between these two concepts?
Tradition and modernity coexist, and we believe it is our duty to learn from the past and use that knowledge to shape the present and future. In a rapidly changing world, traditions may be overlooked and disregarded if not closely examined. We are taking a closer look at the things that have always been around us, re-observing them, and using current language to create fun, enjoyable, and beneficial objects.
