Muka Design Lab, the Bilbao-based studio that brought us Maskor Table Light, launches Arintzea – a new lighting collection sparked by the Art Deco influence within Basque architecture. Aptly named after the Basque word for “streamlined”, these mushroom-like lights feature smooth, clean geometries and a nod to vintage illumination. 

Arintzea’s bowl shaped diffuser offers an unobstructed glow while the simple base flaunts embellished linework that is equal parts Art Deco and signature Muka. With it’s off centered, slim stand, Arintzea Table Light can easily slip between books on your favorite shelf for a subtle decor moment. 

Muka’s designs are inspired by the award-winning duo’s life in the Basque region of Northern Spain. They’ve established a familiar design language that can be seen in the linework within Maskor’s diffuser, the bases of Arintzea and throughout other pieces designed by the studio. While Maskor ties back to the sea, Arintzea represents the balance of old and new architecture in Bilbao, a cornerstone of the Muka aesthetic.

Reach in directly from the top of the canopy. Turn bulb counter-clockwise to remove. Replace with new bulb. Plug light back in.

Maskor

Maskor is the Basque word for “seashell”, and it’s easy to see how this stunning light was inspired by the elegant natural whorls of a nautilus or auger shell. Distinctive concentric rings retreat into the center of the piece, allowing light to emanate from within and without. 

Maskor’s warm, comforting glow makes it perfect for drifting off to sleep, while its modern form and timeless style are always a pleasure to wake up to.

This striking light was inspired by the waves on Denmark’s North Sea. “We were trying to capture the feeling and style of Scandinavia,” say designers Julia and Artem. “Its stripes are like ripples coming onto the shore on a windy day by the dark water.” They also aimed to incorporate the simplicity and utilitarianism of Germany’s Bauhaus school, which brought together fine art and industrial design.

Julia and Artem hope the light gives you a feeling of being cozy in a house by the sea. This area lamp will warm a bedroom, office, or living room with a diffuse light. Warm up to Scandinavian design today with Denmark.
