Born in Denver and raised in Salt Lake City, McKay Nilson is an industrial and spatial designer currently based in New York City. With a formal education spanning architecture, graphic design, and industrial design, he collaborates with a diverse range of clients to explore provocative ideas through lighting, furniture, spaces, and products. His process is guided by a desire to understand our emotional relationships with physical objects and driven by a love of storytelling. As a result, he creates work that is thoughtful in execution and playful in approach.
New York City, New York
I grew up building and making things and went on to study engineering. During my first year of college I found a passion for art that led me to study architecture and then product design.
I work from my home studio in a Manhattan high-rise overlooking the Hudson River. Half of the space is dedicated to digital work and sketching while the other half is filled with tools and materials for prototyping.
